These are the Ten Best coin sites in my opinion. Remember though that I'm both a numismatist and a programmer, so technical excellence will get you extra points. If you would like to nominate a site for the Top Ten, use our feedback form to suggest one.
American
Numismatic Association - A nonprofit, educational organization, chartered
by Congress. Includes the American
Numismatic Marketplace, a listing of member dealers.
Teletrade
Certified Coin Auctions - The biggest coin telephone auction on the
planet. Great for ultra high grade modern coins.
Numismatica
- Coin information with little hype. Not much technical wizardry, but some
good solid information.
Dahlonega
Gold - Despite being VERY specific in nature, the quality of this site
demands a visit from time to time.
USCents.com
- The site for copper specialists. All copper, all the time.
Statmatics
- A good guy with a good page. Lots of coins for sale. Somewhat limited
in the information department.
The
Society for Die Doubling Collectors of America- A good club page. If
you want to know about mint errors, it's a good place to check. The Java
version of their pages is a bit busy.
E-Bay
- While not strictly a numismatic site, E-Bay has quickly established itself
as a leading place to buy and sell coins. At this red hot moment they have
over 20,000 coin lots for sale.
Honorary #11 - American
Coin on the Net (It's my list after all). When and if I deserve to
be in the Top Ten, it will no longer be honorary.
This is the best official mint site I've seen. Attractive, informative, useful.
While not dealing in coins directly, these are very helpful people to numismatists.
Coin
Dealer Newsletter - Cool site with lots of info.
Krause
Publications - Publishers of some of the best Numismatic periodicals.
PCGS
- While one can argue whether they are the best grading service, they certainly
have the best web site of any of the grading services.
Coin
World - weekly numismatic newspaper and marketplace; free trial offer.
These Internet resources are invaluable. There is no better way to learn about coins.
CoinMasters
- I think this is the only totally online coin club.
rec.collecting.coins
Newsgroup - This is the premier news group dedicated to coins. If you can't
find answers to your questions on the web, the people on this list are
more than helpful.
Yahoo
Recreation--Coins_and_Currency
Yahoo
Business and Economy--Coins and Currency
The
Internet Auction List - Auctions for lots of things, including coins.
The US
Mint. (you can also go to the Treasury dept from there)
Stacks
Rare Coins & Auctions - rare coin currency dealers and auctioneers.
